-The high quality graphics are nothing but the best to date.
-The FMV sequences give the game a more cinematic in-a-movie kind of feel. Although, I would like to see this feeling achieved without taking control away from the player.
-The battle system seems to be the most strategic in recent memory. Each character seemed to play a different role on the battlefield depending on his or her strength (i.e. Zidane attacks, Eiko heals and summons, Vivi uses black magic, etc.).
-The ability system also adds strategy to the game. There were several times when I had to equip the abilities differently depending on what kinds of enemies were in a certain dungeon.
-The weapons and armor having different elemental effects (absorb, nullify, etc.) adds strategy to the game. There were a couple of times when I would equip different weapons before fighting a certain boss.
-Rehiring Yoshitaka Amano gave the game a Final Fantasy feel. As a long time fan of the series, this is something that I can really appreciate because when I played this game I actually felt like I was playing Final Fantasy. FFVII and FFVIII had more of a futuristic cyberpunk feel, which I personally didn't like as much.
-Sometimes the next objective can be a little too obscure. The game should do a better job of letting the player know what the next objective(s) are, thus eliminating the need for a walkthrough. Not knowing what the next objective is can lead to boredom and frustration.
-Square again delivers one of the best stories that the video game industry has to offer. However, it is still not much compared to a book or a movie, and the plot is very contrived, as it often tends to be in Japanese RPG's.
-Each character has a unique personality, although I would like to see that reflected in the game play a little bit more. While some of the characters seemed somewhat annoying (Steiner), all in all they were fairly likeable.
-The artwork for the backgrounds is very well done. Seeing my environment light up with movement and life adds to the game's immersive feel, and also to the escapism. It is more of an immersive feel because it conveys more information about the look and feel of the environment to the player.
-The random battle screen transition is the most natural and pleasing to date, however it is not as natural as Chrono Trigger. As the player is trying to walk through the map a randomly appearing enemy appears can throw off the player's inertia. I have observed some players getting frustrated when this happens.
-The spell castings were never too long. This is a dramatic improvement from the previous two Final Fantasies.
-The music does a fairly good job of setting the mood, although it can sometimes be too simplistic. I would like to see something a little more emotion stirring (like orchestrated music).
-Mini-games add some variety to the game play.
-Critical Hits and Trances are great, but they seem to happen randomly. There should be some kind of way for the player to make it happen. Especially with the trance because it can make a huge difference when fighting bosses.
-The game was not too short and not too long. Forty hours was a sizeable bang for my buck.
-Different sounds depending on which surface the player is on adds to the game’s immersive feel.
