Lots of characters with distinctly different personalities. The character creation was very well done.
Plenty of dungeons to explore, magic and skills to aquire, and lots of monsters to fight that will keep you busy for weeks, even months.
All the characters have aggressive personalities and attitudes, and it really give it a nice Xtreme feel.
The Grandia battle system is always good.

Severely lacking in the story department. This game is basically a dungeon crawl, where some of the dungeons are over 100 levels deep. The enemies you fight do not level you up very fast either, even when they are difficult and time-consuming to fight. This game has much more in common with Diablo than with Grandia. It will be a big disappointment for fans of the series.
Moving from overhead to third-person view is interesting, but mostly detrimental, at least in the way they did it. They way they did it is just... umm.. crappy. Once you see it you will understand.
Text instead of voice acting most of the time, and when there is voice acting it is choppy and unnatural.
Graphics are behind the times.
Manually rotating the camera - tedious task.
The art style looks a little too much like fischer-price, which is strange because there is also a lot of cursing in this game. Those crazy Japanese. Sheesh.
