Top notch graphical quality. It looks more realistic than the first one. A definite improvement. The quality during the pre-rendered cutscenes was especially nice.
Some new twists to the game play - 5 purple orbs to become an Onimusha, improving armor as well as weapons, having some NPCs help you...
This time they did an especially good job of making the secondary characters get involved with the main character during gameplay. Showing up to help you fight, helping you with some puzzles, taking control of them to perform side missions, giving gifts.
The optional scenario paths add a lot to replay value.
All of the usual pros of Resident Evil type games:

Text instead of voice acting in many areas.
The gift giving this is kind of interesting, but it's more like a gimmik. When you get in return is completely unpredictable, and you have to guess who will like which item. It doesn't tie into the game play or the storyline. The collecting art pieces thing is also a gimmik that doesn't tie into the plot or game play at all.
When you go into a dark red-lit area, it is often difficult to tell which character is you and which are the enemies.
It's very difficult to tell what will cause a scenario to occur. The player is clueless.
Too linear.
This story is a quest for revenge. I don't like quests for revenge.
