Vague, ambiguous, and plothole-filled story that was yet more interesting than the first... Psychotic horrorific artistic feel masterfully crafted and conveyed... better than the first Silent Hill overall.
+
1) The psycho-horror feel was very well done. It has long narrow corridors, the noise-making radio, the mist-filled town, the strange and bizzare freaks of nature that seemed to pop up all the time, the moving shadows, the environmental sounds, and many more. There were even some interactive elements that contributed to this, such as the time when your light goes out in a room and you put in a new battery to find that the room is covered in flesh-eating bugs! When you try to open doors they rattle back at you. As you interact with the world, the world speaks back to you shouting words of psychotic horror.
2) The voice acting was done much better this time around. Last time a new speach file had to be loaded for every sentence, but this time the technology of PS2 allowed for smooth transitions from one sentence to the next.
3) The cinematic sequences were not too long, and sometimes the story would even unfold as you were playing the game.
4) The story was better overall, mainly because of the plot twists. When it got to the part where you found out that James had actually killed his wife, that lead to some character development, which is something that is all too scarce in the world of video games.
5) Unlike the first game, this time there were no more impossible-to-hit winged beasts! Also, most of the enemies could simply be avoided, which decreases annoyance and also increases tension.

1) The story was very vague and ambiguous, and has quite a few very large plot holes. Why was the town covered in mist? What are all these freaky monsters doing here? Why do these road blocks keep appearing and disappearing? Why is it that when I walk through one door in the hotel that I end up in a completely different part of the building? Why does Maria follow James around all the time, why does James care, and why does she look so much like Mary? What's up with Eddie, Laura, and Angela? Why are they here? None of these questions were even slightly explained.
2) Most, if not all, of the puzzles were not connected to the plotline at all.
3) The little cinematography that was there was done very poorly.
4) The play control was pretty awkward, until later in the game when I got used to it. The controls Super Mario 64 were really good, and should apply here.
5) Eddie and Angela seemed like over exaggerations of themselves. They seemed to be there just to add to the psycho-freaky ambiance of the game, and seemed to have no real part in the plot at all.
6) The gaps between plot development are too far between.
7) The camera angles obscure view much of the time. This is especially annoying during boss fights.
8) It is very difficult to figure out how to get the different endings without getting a walkthrough. The game should drop you some hints.
9) It was basically the same as the first one, except for the story, the higher-quality voice acting, and super sexy graphics.
