The Amazing Spiderman. Spiderman has always been a character whose main appeal, like most all of the superheroes, is that he can do extraordinary things in extraordinary situations. Shooting web vines to swing and speed around the concrete metropolis jungle, kung fu fighting, clinging to walls and ceilings, trapping things in his web, and moving around like a sneaky, seductive ninja spider in the name of justice. All of these things have made spiderman an amazing superhero, and may also explain why he's been around for so long.

Story development at every turn. After completing one small task, you get another piece of the story. Much of the story development happens during the gameplay as well. There are no two hour long levels of endlessly fighting of hoards and hoards of enemies. Story development is interwoven into the gameplay. The bosses also talk to you, and say appropriate things, when you're dueling with them. You chase them, battle them, protect civilians from them, and do many other things to make you feel like you are playing the role of the hero on a quest.

Each character has their own personality twist. The Shocker is a mob gangster, The Vulcher is a lonely guy, Scorpion is a paranoid conspirist, and Goblin is bent on masterminding chaos. They're all unique.

Variety. You chase the bad guy, fight him in mid air, fight him on the ground, save some people, sneak around, tward the evil plan to kill civilians, and more. It changes at almost every turn. You're never doing any one thing for too long. It is a robust package.

Nice soundtrack. It gets you pumped up and excited to be playing as Spiderman. Professional actors from the movie also help. The soundtrack also changes and evolves as you play through the game. In the beginning it's light and introductory, and at the end dramatic and climactic.

Very well paced. None of the levels are too long or repeditive.

One of the key aspects of Spiderman that has made him so popular is his imperfections. He was the ridiculed geek that everybody made fun of, he was always too shy or bewildered to go after Mary Jane, and he is constantly filled with regret for the mistakes he made and the things he didn't do. Many people can relate to this, and I think that this is the main reason Spiderman has always been so popular. This aspect was portrayed very well in the movie, but in the game it was completely absent.

Strange control scheme. Although it does not hinder the players progress too much, is does often feel awkward. It needs more tweeking. Accidentally clinging to walls, not being able to get the camera in the right position, and sometimes just not really knowing what exactly is going on are the main points.

Story's weak. It needs more depth. You avenged your uncle ben, and then you just go around fighting other supervillians and saving the day. Woop-tee-doo.

None of the characters experience any internal growth. At first Spiderman is determined to avenge his Uncle Ben, but then he just goes around being a superhero. Spiderman's jouney is completely external, with no internal development. (Although it was in the movie, just not in the video game).

Spiderman has been around for so long... isn't it time to try something new?
